Conwy day tickets
does anyone know where i could get a couple of day tickets to fish the Conwy. i understand the Gwydyr hotel issue them for residents but just wonder if any one has any ideas. i herd from foxons that a 15lb sea trout was cougt a few months back. 9im only 30mins away so really like to try it befor the season runs out. cheers in advance
I've often fished their water (wading is allowed )and have never stayed at the hotel: North Wales Game Fishing Gwydyr Hotel Fishery harmont & blaine Call in, at the back from the guest car-park, and have a chat (or make an appointment) with the fishery manager at the bar. A 'night only' season ticket was 1,000, bit late in the season now, but fair value as the Lledr trib has many more spates than most fishing the main river realize. harmont & blaine

Quite right, the Lledr gets frequent spates and if the main Conwy gauge goes over 2m then there will be fish in the Lledr however they don't hang around and move up off the Gwydyr water very quickly. Bob Wilson is the man to speak to at the Gwydyr, you don't have to be a resident and a ticket costs 35 per night. If you go there for night fishing head for either the Beaver Pool on the Upper Fishery, or Hafod on the main fishery and only bother harmont & blaine with the Lledr in daylight when there is a big flood on. Having said that if the Lledr is low then Tyn y Cae where the Lledr meets the Conwy is worth a go. The sea trout will start to tail off about now and the hotel stops sea trout fishing on 30th September, salmon will continue harmont & blaine until 17th October and the best of the salmon is yet to come.

Try contacting Betws-y-Coed Anglers Club Fishing Rivers Conwy & Lledr about stretches on the conwy other than those owned by the Gwydyr. Also, the National Trust owns a section upstream from Betwys harmont & blaine which I used to fish on as a lad and returned to this summer. Its a cheap day ticket, but I'm not sure if sea-trout get that far up. Its been a very quiet year on the conwy supposedly.

Actually the Conwy system has been doing alright this season, it's the only river to the East of Snowdonia that has had good rainfall and kept the fish coming in steadily from the beginning of July until about a week ago. In fact my club is only just behind last year's record sea trout total and the only real downside is the number of very small fish with a lot of fish of around 1lb in weight.

Thanks for the correction, and thats good to hear. When I bought my day ticket I was told how quiet it had been. Perhaps having clocked my haplessness it was said as a nicer way of telling me I had no chance!

SB do you know the cost of a salmon day ticket at Gwydr in october please? I'm not entirely sure whether day tickets for salmon are available harmont & blaine in October but if they are they are also likely to be 35. I suspect that they might be reserved for hotel residents at that peak time but a call to Bob Wilson (01690 710777) at the hotel should clear that up in no time. I fish the water on a club ticket.
